Zeus and Poseidon,
at a cross

Prophecy,
Prometheus drawn
And the gods,
feared great loss

An offspring,
powerful
than the seed would rise
Pursuit
for the nymph,
would thus be a lethal compromise

Almighty Achilles,
son to mortal Peleus
and nymph Thetis,
one of the seven was born

Dipped
in Styx,
for the shield of immortality to be worn

Hanging,
a heel left exposed in Thetis’ hand
Achilles,
was still vulnerable to the mortal death

Helen of Sparta,
persuaded by Paris to the far off walls
Achaeans,
led by Agamemnon began Trojan war

Odysseus,
followed Calchas’s prophecy
And persuaded Achilles,
to be the war’ ultimate prodigy

The wrath,
rained upon the Trojan land
Achilles,
spearheaded the Greek’s onslaught plan

But,
an insult by Egoistic Agamemnon
angered Achilles
He,
decided to quit
and
indirectly helped the enemy

The immortals,
took this fruitful opportunity
The war,
took a turn
and
Greeks suffered heavy casualties

Agamemnon,
surrendered his ego for a bigger cause
Sent his men
to appease Achilles,
and
bring him back to war

The offer,
he initially rejected with contempt
but,
beloved Patroclus was then executed by the son of Priam

Achilles,
came back to avenge the fallen
Draped
with retribution, hunted Hector,
the great warrior of the attacked kingdom

The clouds of defeat,
loomed over the city of Troy
Achilles,
vanquished its greatest son,
with Athena’s ploy

Dragged he,
the body of Hector by the end of his chariot
Troy,
was decimated to see the downfall of its greatest patriot

Priam,
had lost the chance of survival
Knew now,
the end of his empire was inevitable

Achilles,
carried forward the onslaught
Scaled,
Trojan walls with Greeks,
to capture a city in distraught

Paris,
the cowardly son
slipped
the eyes of elated Greeks
Secretly,
he fired a poisoned arrow
on
Achilles heel

The invincible,
ultimately fell to Apollo’s wrath
but,
the son of Thetis
said Iliad,
was the greatest warrior
and
the everlasting hero of the Trojan War!!

Synopsis: A poem about Achilles and the Trojan War as per Greek Mythology. Achilles was one of the greatest warriors as per Greek Mythology. He was the son of Thetis, an immortal nymph and goddess of water. He was the central character of the Trojan War as per Iliad, a poetry document that describes the War.

Achilles as per legend had only one weakness in the body i.e. his heel where if hurt could prove lethal for him. We also refer to Achilles heel in modern-day to denote weakness.

He almost single-handedly won the war for Achaeans. He defeated mighty Hector who was the prince of Troy and elder son of king Priam. His younger brother Paris had eloped with Helen of Sparta to Troy, which ultimately led to Trojan War.

It is said that Paris killed Achilles with an arrow shot on his vulnerable heel in which he was helped by Apollo.
