In our previous article, we highlighted the top 6 poems on life and death from The Unprecedented Cult (TUC) archives. In this article, we will focus on the top 5 songs about life and death, part of TUC. These songs are heart-wrenching, vicarious, and bring out intense emotions.

So, let us jump right in.

#1 – Crimson on the street: A Black Night

One of the best songs about life and death that was inspired by civil war across various countries. This is a rap song that depicts the scene of the streets of a town in a civil war crisis. It talks about a night of massacre, death, misery, pain, and collateral damage as seen and narrated by the protagonist in the song.

Song about life and death: The scene of complete destruction and buildings in ruins as part of war.

Deafening silence
Blood in my ears
Nowhere to go
Nowhere to hide
The memories haunt like hell
The pictures he painted were real
Black was all around
When I woke up in fear

Tears in my eyes
Hiding pain behind that smile
The rain and the thunder
were chaotic that night
The words he etched
were beyond my shallow mind
Black was all around
wherever I took my sight

Dark before the light
Silence before the fight
Living in a sadistic world
was so much true and realistic that night
Gunshots to the head
Grenades behind
Black was all around
and there was nowhere to hide

An infant running on the street
Flashes across the sky
Why do we kill each other
when there can be peace if we decide?

Black was all around
hurting every life
Black was all around
clouding every mind
Black was all around
the people howled that night
Black was all around
and death reigned that night

#2 – Mayhem: Test Of Resilience

Another gem to the songs about life and death. A rap song that was written after the Manchester terror attack in the Manchester Arena on May 22, 2017. The song depicts a night of death, fear, anguish, and misery for people and especially those who lost their loved ones in the attack. It talks about people going out of their way to help the injured, showing signs of resilience. The song ends with a hope of recovery and a wish for the right judgment to be given to the perpetrators.

People marching on the streets showing resilience and solidarity against terrorism.

You were running
screaming wild
in the wake
of blinding lights

Saw mayhem
sweep the night
and so deafening
were those cries

There was blood
all around
as flesh and bones
fell to the ground

Bodies,
they writhed in pain
and the spectacle
grew utterly insane

Death and darkness
ran the show
as you
saw the wrath unfold

Jumping
off the fences,
shaken,
you were looking
for a haven

Was lost
in the sea of devastation
had
nowhere to hide and nowhere to run

You tried
to reach out for the loved ones
but
were lost in the screams and hurt

The sirens
roared across the streets
as you pleaded
for God’s mercy

Tears
fell down your eyes
you wanted to help
but were left numb and immobile

City
woke up to the horrific night
and
it was time to show unity and fight

People
flooded the devastated streets
and helped
the traumatized out of reach

Barbaric
was the act of selected humanity
done
to shake the essence of unity

But I know
you won’t back down against any cruelty
coz
you will stand your ground till eternity

No matter
how hard they hit
terror
will never break your will

One day
they will fall apart and die
you shall then
write a new chapter of life

#3 – Fade Away: Living Your Lies

This rock song depicts the miserable state of a person who lost his/her loved one. It highlights the fact that the misery and pain of losing someone can lead to depression, which can ultimately hinder the normal way of living life. It is one of the few rock songs written that bring out the essence of life and death.

Song about life and death: Sketch of a boy boy tied in a bag which is floating in the dark depicting thoughts of death, depression, and misery.

Light years apart
A broken heart
Along the way, life left a scar
Finding a way to breakthrough
Is there a way to let go of this pain?

I fade away
I failed again
I shout tearing apart my lungs
but your voices inside turn me numb
The memories I wanted to keep
are filled with misery and hurt
Your words I inhale
to ignite the fire and watch me burn

Your shadows are the comfort
that’s all left within
Your unsaid words
are the thorns in this piercing guilt
I always absorb the thoughts
that make me fragile
When I close my eyes
the tears wash away the dust
from the darkness imprinted on my mind

I fade away
I failed again
I shout tearing apart my lungs
but your voices inside turn me numb
The memories I wanted to keep
are filled with misery and hurt
Your words I inhale
to ignite the fire and watch me burn

They say
you are there among the stars
But,
the clouds
hide the place where you are
The lie of you
still floats around
the one you left behind
when my world fell apart

I’m still lost
after all these years
I’ve changed to a person
I never wanted to be
Will you show me the way?

A day
I’ll fade away
and
I will sleep in my grave
There is no path
to get back to you
and
these voices will keep me tied to you

I will swallow the sorrows every day
and live forever to see only dark days

I fade away
and I failed again
I fade away
and I failed again
I fade away…
and I failed again

Let me let go of this pain!!
Let me let go of this pain!!

#4 – Blood on the guitar: A Doom Song

Another song related to the civil war crisis. It showcases death, misery, and collateral damage. The song emanates the thoughts of a common man who is affected by the present crisis and understands the situation. He expects people and countries to come together and help resolve the crisis but also knows that nothing is being done for personal agendas. The song ends with a hope that one day people will realize that war brings nothing but only death and pain and then war will end. It is not doubt one of my favorite songs about life and death.

A child watching the buildings in ruins and the destruction caused by the war.

Can,
I catch a breath now?
Suffocating,
I’m embracing death now
Robbed,
of the heartbeats
Living,
in the curse of your mercy
Divided,
are the thoughts so deep
Trapped,
I can’t reach back to me

It’s all,
building up inside
Wondering,
why I’m still alive
Deceit,
is what I’ve realized
Sanity,
a treasure compromised
Holding,
to the memories of my scars
Burnt,
I can’t find a way back to the start

World,
it’s a deadeye
Preachers,
are dictators in disguise
Peace,
has lost in the ashes of time
Angst,
a need for the world to realize
Judged,
you have every part of me
Their blood,
has infused the venom in me

But,
it’s too much to take now
No one,
gives a damn somehow
Run,
will I and reach the end
Tyranny,
won’t stop me to make you listen
One day,
you’ll see me fall apart
And my pieces,
will cut you down with blood on the guitar

#5 – Infused Misery: Volcano Inside

The song is about the emotions, intense feelings, and miserable state of a person who lost his/her loved one long way back but still is not able to move on with life. The song depicts his/her sad state and hopelessness.

A woman with shadow of volcano inside her depicting depression, misery, and emotions.

For once
I wanna be alone,
I’ve taken too much
inside my core

I’m know
I’m not alright,
Thinking always
of those sad times

It builds up inside
every single memory,
I’m still holding
to my thoughts
and
the broken dreams

Why am I still stuck in between?
It cuts like a knife
and there is no relief

I’m starting
to make sense of it now,
I’ll never be free
of these erupting memories somehow

Scars inside
have cut me open
and these dreams
have left me shaken

I know
I’ll never move on,
Even
if I could,
the volcano of you inside
will burn me down

I’ve seen
too many people caving in,
but you were
the strongest amongst them

I still hold onto you
but
you push me away,
and
a part of me you took away

I wonder when I lost myself?
Yesterday it was fine,
and
now I am locked in a shell

I don’t know
how to believe every word they say
coz
my fate has faded and I’ve lost my way

I am lying here
like a decaying corpse,
people judging
with no signs of remorse

I’m tied
by your chains
and
I’ll never move on,
Even
if I could
the volcano of you inside
will burn me down
